The Assassination of President Lincoln

Oh my dear Lord in Heaven, why?  I cannot believe it.  After we have come so far, we are thrown in turmoil.  President Lincoln was a grand leader and a wonderful person.  I do not understand why anyone would want to hurt, much less kill, such a wonderful man.  How will we overcome this?

The End

Finally the last of the War!  It is so wonderful to hear of the Confederate surrender.  It makes my life worth living just to hear the words repeated.  I will always remember the days I sat and helped man after man, some no older than myself.  I wonder what will I do after I return home.  I am considering founding a project.  The Red Cross Organization has a certain ring, does it not?

The Taking of Vicksburg

A grand victory for the Union. At last, Mississippi has been captured. Maybe this accursed war will not last much longer. My heart grows heavy every time I must watch a family receive ill news. I had to locate a family with a letter for a young man whom I had given help. When I arrived back his cot had been cleared. He was gone from us. So many lives have been lost. When this war is over, I know I will be able to hear all rejoice across the Union.
